How Should a Golf Glove Fit?

A golf glove should fit closely around your hand without restricting movement.

Think of it almost like a second layer of skin: snug, but comfortable.

How tight should a golf glove be?

There should be minimal excess material around your fingers and palm.

If there is noticeable empty space beyond your fingertips or large folds across your palm, the glove may be too large. If your fingers feel compressed or movement is restricted, it may be too small.

The closure should also feel secure without needing to be pulled excessively tight.

Does material affect the fit?

Yes.

Premium materials such as Cabretta leather are popular because they can provide a soft feel and close fit. Leather can also adapt slightly to the hand with use, meaning a new leather glove may initially feel quite snug.

Why fit matters at Alvare

Fit becomes even more important when technology is added to the glove.

Alvare is developing a small removable sensor that sits inside the glove and collects swing and round data.

The sensor and its pocket need to remain secure without interfering with natural hand or wrist movement. For us, the technology only makes sense if the glove still performs properly as a golf glove first.

A properly fitted golf glove should feel secure, allow natural movement and have very little unnecessary material.

Once you start playing, you should barely have to think about it.
