How Long Does a Golf Glove Last?

There is no exact number of rounds that every golf glove will last.

Its lifespan depends on factors such as how often you play, grip pressure, practice frequency, moisture, fit and how the glove is stored.

Why do golf gloves wear out?

Every swing creates friction between your hand, glove and golf grip.

If you practice frequently, your glove may also experience more wear on the driving range than during actual rounds.

Moisture can accelerate wear too, particularly with leather. Instead of leaving a wet glove crumpled inside your golf bag, allow it to dry naturally and store it properly.

When should you replace your glove?

It may be time for a new glove when:

  • Holes begin to appear
  • The material becomes heavily worn
  • The glove permanently loses its shape
  • Grip or comfort noticeably decreases

Correct fit can also help. A loose glove can create unnecessary movement and friction, while an excessively tight glove can place additional stress on certain areas.

What happens to the technology when the glove wears out?

This is something we considered when developing Alvare.

Golf gloves naturally wear out, so the technology should not have to be replaced every time the glove is.

The Alvare sensor is being designed to be removable and transferable between compatible Alvare gloves. When one glove reaches the end of its life, the sensor can be moved to another.

The sensor is being developed to collect information such as swing speed, tempo, shot distance and shot location, with the data brought together in the Alvare app.

The glove may eventually need replacing.

The technology doesn't have to.
