Cabretta Leather vs Synthetic Golf Gloves

One of the biggest differences between golf gloves is the material.

Two common options are Cabretta leather and synthetic materials, and each has different characteristics.

What is Cabretta leather?

Cabretta is a soft leather widely used in premium golf gloves.

Golfers often choose it because it can provide a soft feel, close fit and good connection with the club.

Good leather also moves naturally with the hand and can adapt slightly to its shape over time.

What about synthetic gloves?

Synthetic materials can be designed for characteristics such as durability, flexibility, breathability or weather resistance.

Some gloves therefore combine leather and synthetic materials, using each where its properties are most useful.

Which is better?

There is no universal winner.

If you prioritize a soft, close-to-the-hand feel, Cabretta leather may be the better choice. Synthetic or hybrid construction can make sense when durability, stretch or weather performance are bigger priorities.

At Alvare, we are developing our gloves around Cabretta leather, with a strong focus on fit, feel and movement.

This is especially important for our technology glove. A removable sensor sits inside the glove, meaning the surrounding materials and construction need to keep it secure without compromising movement.

Technology should not replace what makes a good golf glove.

It should build on it.
